Q7. Identify the Figures of Speech in the following lines.

1. I stand and look at them long and long.
Ans. Repetition : The word long is repeated.

2. They do not sweat and whine about their condition.

Ans. Tautology : Both sweat and whine convey the same idea in different ways (i.e. to work hard).

3. They do not make me sick discussing their duty to God.

Ans. Alliteration: Sound of the letter d is repeated.

4. …… not one is demented with the mania of owning things.

Ans. Hyperbole : The sentence is exaggerated.

5. They bring me tokens of myself.

Ans. Paradox : Two strange or impossible things coming in a same sentence.

6. No one is respectable or unhappy over the whole earth.

Ans. Hyperbole : The sentence is exaggerated.
